Fire Extinguisher Technician

Location:  Westford, MA (Field-Based)
Department: Portable Fire Extinguisher Division
Reports To: Fire Extinguisher Operations Manager
Compensation:  $24.04-$48.08

Position Summary

The Fire Extinguisher Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, servicing, and installing portable fire extinguishers and emergency lighting systems at customer sites. This role ensures compliance with all applicable NFPA codes and state regulations while maintaining FEI’s standards of professionalism, safety, and customer service.

This is a field-based position that requires strong attention to detail, technical accuracy, and a commitment to safety while performing inspections and service calls across various customer facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, and service portable fire extinguishers and emergency exit lighting systems at customer locations.

  • Install new extinguishers and replace units due for service.

  • Complete and submit inspection reports electronically in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Ensure all equipment meets required safety and compliance standards.

  • Maintain tools, service vehicle, and equipment in proper working condition.

  • Uphold professional appearance and conduct while representing FEI at customer sites.

  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • MA Certificate of Competency 46 (License for Portable Fire Extinguishers) required.

  • OSHA 10 Certification preferred.

  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes a plus.

  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record required.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage daily service routes efficiently.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, or crawl.

  • Occasionally works in elevated or confined spaces.

  • Exposure to moderate noise levels and varying indoor/outdoor environments.

  • Must be able to climb ladders and work safely with hand tools and extinguishers.
