Biology New Grads: Laboratory Technician - Night Shift Job Description Join our dedicated team as a Laboratory Technician on the 3rd shift. In this role, you will perform diagnostic clinical and clinical contract research testing under the guidance of department leadership. Your responsibilities will include preparing samples, managing samples across different analyzers, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Responsibilities + Perform diagnostic testing, handling between 500 to 1,500 samples per analyzer each night. + Support sample management by identifying, labeling, processing, and centrifuging samples during high volumes or reduced testing periods. + Prepare laboratory reagents and assist with reagent maintenance. + Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment and participate in equipment validations. + Release final results in accordance with training and compliance requirements. Essential Skills + B.S. in Life Science (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, etc.) or Medical Lab Tech (MLT) schooling with ASCP certification or Clinical Lab Science (CLS) schooling. + 4+ years of hands-on testing experience in laboratory sample management (donor samples, patient samples, etc.). Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in human biological testing (blood, tissue, urine, etc.). + Blood banking experience. + Biology lab internship. + Familiarity with centrifuges, qPCR instrumentation, gel electrophoresis, and sequencers. Work Environment The laboratory operates three distinct lab areas: reference, HLA (DNA testing), and testing labs. This position is located in the testing lab and services various regions including Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Michigan. Training will occur over 3-4 months on the 1st shift, transitioning to a regular schedule on the 3rd shift from Friday to Monday, 8 PM - 6:30 AM. Work 1-2 holidays per year (typically one in summer and one in winter). Dress code requires scrubs or business casual attire with long pants and comfortable, clean, closed-toe shoes. You will work alongside 4-5 other technicians and 3-4 sample management assistants. Equipment includes four main analyzers: Abbott Alinity S, Immucor Neo, Roche Cobas 8800, and various lab-specific instruments like pipettes, centrifuges, and microscopes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.75 - $26.50/hr.
