Job Description

Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics, and the outdoors. 

The Opportunity:  

The Bus Drivers is in charge of providing safe transport of high school children based on a schedule and route. Their duties may include helping students board the bus, learning which students take their route and planning around traffic during trips. The bus driver will interact daily with children and serve as their trusted transportation to and from school. 

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Transport children and other passengers to and from school
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times, including cleaning, sweeping, picking up trash in the bus/vehicle after each trip.
  • Ensure the safety of all students.
  • Verify permissions for children who ride home with friends.
  • Assist students with getting on and off the bus as needed.
  • Discipline children as needed to maintain a safe environment.
  • Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
  • Attend safety meetings as required.

Qualifications and skills

  • Must have and maintain a class B CDL with a school bus (S) endorsement.
  • Must maintain Medical Certification per FMCSA requirement.
  • Comfortable driving in extreme weather conditions
  • Comfortable driving in the mountain during all seasons
  • Must have/acquire and maintain CPR certification.
  • One year experience required.
  • Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last 3 years
  • Two or more years of experience working with children, preferred.
  • Ability to carry out assigned route on time.

Working Conditions :

  • Environment: in vehicle, indoors and outdoors
  • Physical demands: able to sit and stand for at least 8 hours per day; occasional after hours, weekend and/ or weeknight obligations. Must be able to lift 40 lb.
  • Working relationships: students, parents, outside vendors and all other employees 

Salary: $21.00 - $22.00, per hour, depending on license.
